Ruling on Adding Extra Words in the Adhan

Sh. Ibn Baz :

As for what some people add (to the Adhan or Iqamah): ‘Come to the best of deeds’ (Hayya ‘ala khayril-‘amal) or ‘I bear witness that Ali is the vicegerent of Allah’ (Ashhadu anna ‘Aliyan waliyullah), (or: ‘I bear witness that Ali is the Commander of the Faithful and the vicegerent of Allah’), as some Shiites do, this is an evil and an innovation (bid’ah) that is not permissible.

أما ما يزيده بعض الناس (في الأذان والإقامة): (حي على خير العمل) أو (أشهد أن عليًا ولي الله)، ( أو : أشهد أن عَلِيّا أمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلِيُّ اللهِ ) كما يفعله بعض الشيعة ، فهذا منكر وبدعة لا يجوز.
